What Happens When the Next Step Takes You Away from Home?

Jasmine had worked for an international company for several years. She had worked hard, taken on new responsibilities, and hoped that one day she would be promoted to a senior position.

When the opportunity finally came, she was excited. The role offered more responsibility, a higher salary, and the chance to develop her career further. There was just one condition: she would have to move to another country.

Jasmine had lived in the same town her entire life. Her parents lived nearby, most of her friends were within easy reach, and she knew the streets, the shops, and the familiar places where she spent her weekends. Apart from holidays, she had never lived anywhere else.

During the weeks that followed, she spoke with her manager, reviewed the contract, and learned more about the new position. The company would help with the relocation, and the terms were better than she had expected.

One evening, Jasmine sat at the kitchen table with the offer in front of her. Her parents had asked when she would visit next weekend, and a friend had sent a message about their usual Friday-night dinner.

She read through the offer once more. The deadline to respond was the following morning.

She placed the papers beside her phone and looked out of the window at the street she had known since childhood.
