What Becomes Possible When We Let Go?

Lisa was fifty when she began to look back at some of the choices she had made in her younger years.

She had followed her parents' advice when deciding what to study, where to work, and how to build her life. At the time, she had trusted their judgment. They had more experience, and she believed they wanted what was best for her.

Over the years, Lisa discovered that much of their advice had been shaped by their own difficult experiences. They had seen people lose money, relationships fall apart, and opportunities lead to disappointment. Their warnings had been intended to protect her from similar outcomes.

Now, Lisa sometimes wondered what might have happened if she had chosen differently. She imagined the places she might have lived, the work she might have pursued, and the experiences she might have had.

One Saturday morning, she came across a course she had wanted to take years earlier. She read the details, checked the dates, and put the application on the kitchen table.

A few days later, she filled it out and sent it in.
