What Can Small Changes Make Possible Over Time?

Mary had gained weight over the past few years and no longer felt comfortable in her own body. She had tried several diets, each promising results, but none had worked for her in the long run. After another disappointment, she began to wonder whether she would ever find an approach she could maintain.

One afternoon, she ran into an old friend she hadn't seen in years. Mary was surprised by how much her friend had changed. She had lost a considerable amount of weight and seemed full of energy.

Over coffee, Mary asked her how she had done it.

Her friend explained that she had tried diets too, without much success. She had almost given up until her husband suggested they start walking together after dinner. They began with short walks around their neighborhood and gradually adjusted their eating habits.

At first, it wasn't easy. Some evenings were cold and rainy, and after a long day, staying home felt much more appealing. Still, they kept going, finding ways to fit their walks into their routine.

One week became another, and then the weeks turned into months.

A year later, they were still walking together after dinner. When her husband reached for his jacket one evening, she was already waiting by the door.
